Annual Entrepreneur Awards

The Entrepreneur Council is delighted to recognize outstanding local and long-time business owners at the Annual Awards Banquet on June 8 at the Walkersville Social Hall.
“We are excited to help the community recognize these pillars of the Frederick business community for not only their shrewd business competencies, but also their ongoing philanthropic service to many local organizations”, said David Esworthy, Entrepreneur Council President." Join The Entrepreneur Council of Frederick County in recognizing local entrepreneur for their innovation and talent.
Tickets are $45 per person. Each finalist is entitled to one free ticket (please call 301.662.4164x1 to redeem). Deadline to register is June 1, 2016 No Walk-in Registrations will be accepted.

Keynote Speaker: Sharon Riser
Sharon Riser is the director and owner of The Temple, a Paul Mitchell Partner School. Sharon, an award winner in 2013, has over 20 years of experience in the beauty industry and has operated The Temple since 2001 in Frederick with her co-partner, Charles Riser. They own two additional schools in Annapolis and Miami. Sharon has received national recognition and is well known for her community service and involvement in Frederick.
Master Entrepreneur: Phil Rauh
Chairman at Service Glass Industries, Inc., Phil Rauh is receiving the Master Entrepreneur Award in recognition of his outstanding business acumen and philanthropic commitment to the community. Phil emigrated from Romania in 1940 and made his way to Frederick with his wife, Erika. He worked for the Frederick office of Service Glass and Mirror, a division of Harrisburg Glass. In 1985 he became owner and changed the name to Service Glass Industries, Inc.
Today, the firm is major commercial glazing company with an impressive portfolio of multi-story office buildings, hospitals, and universities in the DC metro area. After 50 years in Frederick, Phil attributes his success to faith, family, the hard working staff at Service Glass and the United States of America, which he calls “the land of milk and honey”.
Council's Choice Award: Gerry & Clyde Hicks, The Trail House
Clyde and Gerry Hicks, owners of the iconic Trail House on North Market Street in downtown Frederick opened The Trail House in 1984 just as the revitalization of the downtown area was taking hold. Gerry, a native of Frederick, met Clyde in North Carolina and both were looking for a new line of work. They decided to combine their outdoor interests and open The Trail House in Frederick. Their goal was to have one shop, run it well, treat staff like family, and know their customers when they came in. Thirty-two years later, they have accomplished this. Their business savvy and consistent service to the community makes them very deserving of this special award.
Hood College: Enactus Club
We will also recognize the Hood College Enactus Club for its entrepreneurial work in developing the Backet, a jacket and backpack designed for use by the homeless which has received national attention.
