The National Day of Prayer-Frederick® encourages participation on the National Day of Prayer, which occurs on the first Thursday in May. It exists to help mobilize unified public and personal prayer and to encourage the Christian community to intercede for our nation and its elected leaders.
For several years, the National Day of Prayer-Frederick® worked with the Evangelical Ministerial Fellowship to coordinate a National Day of Prayer Breakfast on the 1st Thursday in May. Notable keynote speakers have included Congressman Roscoe Bartlett, Bishop Darrell Rice, Bishop Harry Jackson, Ft. Detrick Chaplain Lt. Col. Anthony Taylor, and others, who encouraged all those gathered together, whether they be church pastors and congregants, ministry leaders, elected officials, business leaders, or individuals from the greater Frederick County community.
The Frederick Youth Prayer Rally is a platform for a student-led NDP event to encourage area youth to gather together and pray publicly for our local, state, and national government and its leaders.
The National Day of Prayer is a vital part of our heritage. Since the first call to prayer in 1775, when the Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation, the call to prayer has continued through our history, including President Lincoln’s proclamation of a day of “fasting, and prayer” in 1863.
