Aya Cultural Arts Studio is a cultural arts school and retail space. We provide clients with classes in African drumming, sound healing and meditation, creative writing, improv and voice acting, and yoga. We open the space to those in the community looking to share their knowledge in our creative learning space. Our retail space sells world instruments, books, textiles, and jewelry from local and international artists. Owner, Ayanna Gallant, can be seen weekly around the community at events, workshops and classes through various Frederick-based organizations teaching and performing African Drumming and children’s music. Aya, the fern, is the adinkra symbol of the Akan people of Ghana. It represents endurance and resourcefulness, for the fern can grow and thrive even in difficult environments. Through cultural arts education we actively dismantle the forces that aim to divide our cultures. We strengthen our own cultures by seeking all people as a resource. We persevere and thrive through the diversity and the cultural beauty of the Frederick community.
