Updates

  • HRG helped three of our clients obtain more than $760,000 in grants from the Susquehanna River Basin Commission’s Consumptive Use Mitigation Grant program in the latest round of funding announced this week! The program supports projects that promote drought resiliency and improve water quality in the 27,000+ square mile Susquehanna River Basin (which stretches from New York through Pennsylvania into Maryland). Our Strategic Management & Capital Solutions team does a great job of helping clients match their projects with available funding programs and position their grant application for success. All three applications we helped to submit received funding awards. Thank you, team, and congratulations to our clients: Lower Paxton Township, Londonderry Township, and the Borough of Freeland Municipal Authority. We’re happy to help you move these projects forward. Click through the slides below to learn more about the projects and the benefits they’ll provide.

    • Burgundy square with white text saying "760K+ in grant funding for drought resiliency and water quality enhancements." An icon of dollar bills appears above the text.
    • Light blue square with white text that says "Borough of Freeland Municipal Authority
Implementing software, smart water meters, and leak detectors to reduce water loss associated with aging infrastructure."

Darker blue text lists project benefits with accompanying icons:

Improves sustainability of service (image of faucet with running water)
Increases climate resilience" (image of the planet encircled by a cycle of sun, rain, wind, and clouds)
    • teal square with white text saying "Londonderry Township
Restoring 2,150 feet of floodplain in the Conewago Creek"

Navy-colored text lists the project benefits:
Promotes ecosystem resiliency during low-flow periods (image of rain infiltrating the water table below ground)
Supports increased groundwater recharge (image showing interdependence between trees, water, sunlight, and habitats)
    • navy square with white text saying "Lower Paxton Township:
Retrofitting a stormwater basin at their public works facility to capture sediment and filter pollutants from runoff before infiltration."

Lighter blue text lists the project benefits:

Enhances groundwater recharge (image of rain being absorbed into the ground and into the water table below)
Reduces runoff (image of stormwater outfall with water pouring out into the stream)
Improves water quality (image of a probe and testing device being inserted into a stream)
  • We had a wonderful time welcoming kids into the office for Take Your Child to Work Day last week. Our team planned some great activities to demonstrate principles of structural design, watershed management, wastewater treatment, and surveying. We even broke out the drone! Thank you to everyone who planned these activities and volunteered throughout the day.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you to our clients and our amazing employee-owners! HRG climbed 35 places to its highest ever ranking on the ENR Top 500 Design Firms list this year. The ranking is based on annual design revenues reported by architecture, engineering, and construction firms across the nation, and HRG grew its revenues by more than 20 percent over the previous year. This growth wouldn’t be possible without the loyalty and trust our clients have for us and the dedicated service our team members provide. Thank you all so much. It’s a pleasure working together for the betterment of our communities, and recognition like this is icing on a very sweet cake.

    • Text graphic in HRG's brand colors (burgundy, teal, and light blue). Text says: HRG is Moving Up. Our highest ranking ever on the ENR Top 500 Design Firms list.

  • We’re excited to be part of this fun and educational event! Tyler Erb will be sitting at the Conshohocken Borough Authority’s table in order to answer any questions the community may have about the newly implemented stormwater fee, the credit program, and the work the borough plans to do to improve water quality, reduce flood risk, and replace aging infrastructure. He’s bringing a creative activity for the kids, too. We hope to see you there.   #Green Conshy

  • Congratulations to Nick Hepfl, who recently became an NRCS-certified technical service provider for grazing management planning and design! NRCS is the Natural Resources Conservation Service, a division of the US Department of Agriculture that helps farmers implement conservation practices to improve soil and water quality on their land. NRCS provides both technical and financial support – on average $9 million per DAY, according to their website – and certified technical service providers are vital to their mission as boots on the ground personnel in the field. Technical service providers must complete training and demonstrate their qualifications before being certified. This includes sharing examples of their work, so certification is a true testament to Nick’s talent and experience. Nick is certified in many other conservation practices, too: nutrient management, crop rotation, contour farming, critical area planting, deep tillage, fencing, filter strips, forage harvest management, pasture and hay planting, prescribed grazing, tillage management, and strip cropping. Please join us in congratulating Nick on this achievement!

  • Nichole Mendinsky and Erin Threet had the pleasure of attending a ribbon cutting yesterday at Hufnagle Park for an expanded performance and event space with updated lighting, sound, and seating. HRG assisted PennCore Consulting LLC with the design of the terraced amphitheater stairs and seating, boulder seating areas, and hardscape. We also developed a planting plan and designed the site lighting. The plans were developed on a fast-tracked schedule so Lewisburg Borough could take advantage of CARES Act grant funding.   The skies were a bit overcast for the ceremony, but it was great to see the space filled with people and hear some live music alongside remarks from Kendy Alvarez, Lewisburg Mayor; Stacy Richards, Union County Commissioner; Richard Vilello, the deputy secretary of the state Department of Community and Economic Development’s Community Affairs and Development; Steven Beattie, the executive director of the SEDA-COG Joint Rail Authority and former grants manager for Lewisburg; and Liz Cooper, the Central Pennsylvania regional manager for U.S. Sen. Bob Casey. Thank you to PennCore Consulting and Lewisburg Borough for the opportunity to be a part of this project.

  • Are you a member of a volunteer organization looking to increase involvement? Our team leader Shawn Fabian, CPESC, CPSWQ, has some valuable insight to share in a feature on the Pennsylvania Organization for Watersheds & Rivers (POWR) website.   Shawn is president of the Yellow Breeches Watershed Association, which has experienced a growth in membership and attracted non-members to participate in its events over the past year. Shawn told POWR about how social media (and particularly event postings) have helped the organization reach new people. He also talked about how reorganizing board member responsibilities encourages people to take on leadership responsibilities by preventing burnout.   You can read the full article at: https://lnkd.in/enTKDeZU

  • We’re pleased to announce George White has been promoted to Assistant Vice President. In this new role, George will oversee all technical and project delivery operations in our Lehigh Valley office. He’ll also support business development and key client management activities in this region. George joined HRG in 2022 and most recently served  as senior project manager in our civil group. He has been instrumental in establishing HRG’s presence in the Lehigh Valley and has been a key team member on some of several noteworthy projects in the area, including the East Mountain stormwater and flood mitigation study in Scranton, the Easton Avenue flood mitigation project in Bethlehem, and the Bushkill/Zucksville intersection flood study in Forks Township. George also serves as the stormwater engineer for Palmer Township. Please join us in congratulating George on this well-deserved promotion 👏 👏
